  • IBERIA PRESENTATION EVENT

On 14th May, the Spanish Embassy hosted the Iberia Presentation Event organised by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain, in collaboration with Iberia, Patron of the Chamber.

Following the successful launch of our Private Members’ Area back in March, which was also supported by Iberia, they decided to invite member companies to get to know the new Iberia brand image as well as their new routes and products.

H.E. Mr. Federico Trillo-Figueroa welcomed attendees to his residence on this special occasion. He highlighted that Iberia is the kind of company that can perfectly integrate the new with the old. Operating since 1927, Iberia keeps its traditional spirit, but adding an innovative touch on their daily activity.

Later on, Ms. Celia Muñoz Espin, Head of Sales for Europe and Africa of the airline, presented the new routes to South America that Iberia has recently developed (Santo Domingo, Montevideo, Havana and Medellin) as well as the new seats and facilities offered in the long-haul flights.

She showcased some videos to illustrate these improvements and invited Paloma Utrera, Sales Manager at Iberia Express and Chris Rankin, Head of Consumer Sales of BA to share some words with the audience. They both emphasised the relationship between Iberia and the UK, which had been strengthened since the merge with British Airways and showed their willingness to foster this alliance.

Later on, all the guests were invited to try the new seats Iberia had brought to the Embassy and enjoyed the opportunity to experience first-hand how it felt to travel in renewed Iberia business class cabins.

The icing on the cake of this event was the raffle organised for a round trip to Havana. The lucky one on the evening was Ms. Victoria Redondo, from King Stage, a company that has recently joined as member of the Spanish Chamber; and she was delighted with her prize.

Furthermore, our members enjoyed the opportunity to mingle during the drinks reception and exchange impressions about the event in an informal atmosphere. We had a first-class experience tasting an incredible Iberian ham cut live, as well as some exquisite canapés and cheese varieties from Hispania, member of the Spanish Chamber, which were undoubtedly a great success.

The evening was livened up by a cocktail bar, courtesy of Iberia, whose bar tender surprised the attendees with his fruity creations and some music.

Last but not least, we would like to extend our gratitude to both Iberia and The Spanish Embassy for turning this event into a success. We would also like to thank our guests for joining us on yet another unforgettable evening and wish Ms. Victoria Redondo a pleasant stay in Havana.

Keep up with our next events and do not miss the chance to attend our 128th Annual General Meeting, where we will count on Mr. Luis Gallego, President of Iberia, as our Guest of Honour. You can find more information about the registration here, so hurry up as places are running out fast!

  • Foreign Trade Visits of the Spanish Chamber

During the last few months, the Foreign Trade department of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce has been very active. Our Foreign Trade manager, Jesús Agra, has travelled on different occasions to Gerona, Cantabria and Asturias in order to develop partnerships with new companies, present our services and offer support to Spanish companies on their mission to enter the UK market.

The Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain aims to foster relationships with regional Chambers of Commerce and institutions in Spain in order to reach Spanish companies in their local area. To help achieve this, we have developed different commercial activities throughout this first semester of the year.

To begin with, during the month of March and in collaboration with the Cámara Oficial de Comercio e Industria de Girona, Jesús Agra travelled to Girona to meet 8 companies from various sectors, particularly Food and Agriculture . They organised meetings of a 30-minute duration with the objective of understanding the plans and projects these companies had towards the British market and evaluating the alternatives the Spanish Chamber could offer to support them.

Later, on the 23rd April, he attended the “Jornada-País” event organised by the Cámara Oficial de Comercio e Industria de Cantabria in collaboration with SODERCAN (Society for the Regional Development of Cantabria).

This event was conceived as an information day to explain companies from Cantabria, the existing possibilities and opportunities to develop commercial relationships with the United Kingdom. It was presided by Mr. Eduardo Arasti, Counsellor of Innovation, Industry, Tourism and Commerce of the Government of Cantabria and Mr. Antonio Mazarrasa, Secretary General of the Cámara Oficial de Comercio de Cantabria.

Jesús Agra made a presentation explaining the specifics of the British market as well as the attraction and difficulties to get a foothold in this market. This was followed by two business-case presentations from two Cantabrian companies, Leading Enterprises and Talleres Cobo, which brought a practical note to the session and opened a discussion round afterwards.

This successful event was closed with one-to-one meetings with Jesús Agra. 11 companies decided to participate so they could get personalised advice and recommendations for their projects in the UK from our expert.

Moreover, and following the tour of the north of Spain, on the 13th May our Foreign Trade Manager travelled to Asturias, where ASTUREX (the Society for External Promotion of the Principality of Asturias) organised in collaboration with CAC-ASPROCON (Asturias Construction Confederation) a presentation to advise Asturian companies from the Industry and Construction sector on how to do business in Great Britain.

The Director of the international department of ASTUREX, Mrs. Mª Ángeles Álvarez and Jesús Agra made their presentations and provided some tips to the audience, 7 companies had the opportunity to meet Jesús in individual meetings to discuss their plans with him.

To sum up, we would like to thank all the institutions and organisations that invited the Spanish Chamber of Commerce to participate in their activities and encourage them to keep counting on us to develop commercial relationships between the Anglo-Spanish business communities.
