  • INTERNATIONAL TASTING: WINE, SPIRITS AND BEER 2018

On Tuesday 25th September 2018 we were delighted to take part in the annual International Wine, Spirits and Beer Tasting event. This event was hosted by a total of 16 London-based foreign Chambers of Commerce representing countries from around the world, with the aim of broadening attendees’ networks by exposing them to a greatly international audience.

Over 400 guests gathered at the impressive Stamford Bridge, the home ground for Chelsea Football Club in south west London, which provided an impressive and memorable setting with elevated views of the whole pitch and fantastic, open views of the evening sky.

On this occasion, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium & Luxembourg, Canada, Colombia, The Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Finland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, Spain and Switzerland were the participating countries, each with their own attractively decorated stand showcasing some of their finest wines, beers and spirits.

The International Wine, Spirits and Beer Tasting would not be possible without the invaluable collaboration of the sponsors. On this occasion, our member  Raventós Codorníu was the sponsor of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce with two of their representatives operating the Spanish stand. They provided a generous selection of four different wines including two cavas, with vintages varying from 2011 – 2015 and grape varietals including 100% Pinot Noir, 70% Viura, 70% Chardonnay and 100% Tempranillo.

Raventós Codorníu is the business group which created cava and pride themselves in being the oldest family business in Spain and one of the oldest of the world dating back over 500 years. More than 150 of their international wines and cavas have received awards in the last 5 years and they are commonly known for their commitment to the earth and society by promoting the development of regional products and generating value in local communities through winery tours. Their commitment is to delight customers and they certainly delighted all those who sampled their wines at this unforgettable event.

With such an international range of beverages and backgrounds, the event did not fail to impress. Guests had a unique opportunity to broaden their international business networks with peers from other Chambers of Commerce. They were additionally able to exchange opinions about the excellent selection of drinks, from Japanese sake to Mexican tequila and Finnish gin, and make recommendations to each other in a relaxed environment, resulting in a positive and lively atmosphere.

We would like to thank our member Raventós Cordoníu for their kind support by providing a generous selection of their delicious wines. Likewise, we would like to thank all the attendees who joined us and, especially, to our colleagues at the Foreign Chambers of Commerce and trade institutions for their work and collaboration for bringing this event to life and for making it such a success yet again.

  • NETWORKING FOR PEOPLE WHO DON’T LIKE NETWORKING

    Thursday 22nd October, 2015

On Tuesday, 13th October, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain organised a special networking event in collaboration with Avocets Consulting, a consultancy company that specialises in corporate communication training for international audiences, and whom are members of the Chamber. The gathering was held at The Kensington Hotel, a stunning hotel part of The Doyle Collection, also members of the Chamber.

    John Waterman from Avocets Consulting

This event was especially interesting because John Waterman, from Avocets Consulting, who is a networking specialist, created an enjoyable and dynamic atmosphere where all the participants were encouraged to interact with each other while learning some tips about networking.

During the evening, our Secretary General, Igor Urra, gave a short speech to thank guests for their support and to highlight the importance of creating a solid professional network. Afterwards, he gave the floor to Mr. Waterman who started the networking masterclass.

While attendees enjoyed a glass of wine John Waterman shared some tips on how to improve your social and networking skills. First, Mr. Waterman explained us some guidelines and inter-cultural differences to consider while networking. Secondly, all the participants performed some exercises like How to join a group conversation or Phrases for exiting a conversation, with the main objective to improve our social skills, abilities, pitching, etc.

We would like to thank our guests for joining us on the evening and we are very grateful to The Kensington Hotel for kindly holding this event and especially the support of Esther Lapole, Director of Sales of the hotel, with this activity. We are also grateful to our eloquent trainer, John Waterman, for such a productive and amusing evening!

  • INTERNATIONAL WINE & SPIRITS TASTING 2014

On Tuesday 16th September the Spanish Chamber was proud to take part in the 6th edition of the International Wine & Spirits Tasting. This annual event is organised by several Chambers of Commerce in London. The event’s main goal is to broaden attendees’ network by providing members from the different chambers and related organisations with the opportunity to access an international audience. For this edition, the Wine Tasting had counted on two new additions, Georgia and Portugal Chambers of Commerce that joined last year’s participants that represented: Argentina, Austria, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Macedonia, Mexico, Spain and Switzerland.

This year the event counted with almost 300 attendees.

As the name of the event stands, the evening was driven around the wide variety of wines & spirits from diverse regions of the 12 countries that were represented in the event. This time we had a record number of attendees, over 300 guests gathered at the magnificent Grand Connaught Rooms, located steps away from the British Museum, to taste a selection of wine varieties from around the world as they walked their way around the different country stations and dispersed throughout the great room where the event was held.

On this occasion, Spanish wines were kindly sponsored by Gilbu, member of the Chamber. Delegates from Gilbu had the opportunity to showcase their products to a great and varied audience. During the event there were many curious individuals and lovers of the Spanish gastronomy that stopped by the Spanish station to taste the 3 wines presented, Solecico Fusión, Sarada Fusión and Sarada Selección, while getting some guidance through the tasting provided by their professional sommelier.  Gilbu products are distinguished due to its careful production process based on the assortment of the best raw materials, as well as, relying on the latest technology in ecological products.

Moreover, the key of the event resides as well in the importance of the UK wine market within the worldwide scenario. Great Britain is one of the main worldwide wine markets, in numbers; it is the sixth biggest market in the world regarding the buying and selling volume.

This fact was reflected on the wide variety of products that were presented during the event. We could taste from a raspberry wine imported from Austria to a curious Japanese whiskey, without forgetting the sweet ice Canadian wine that was surprising once again.

Moreover, one of the key facts that contribute to turn this event into a noted date in London business based community relies on the position and relevance of UK wine market worldwide, being currently the sixth largest for its buying and selling volume.  The great variety, origin and distribution of the wines & spirits that were presented in the evening helped to  prove this fact. Attendees were able to travel around the world with their senses: one minute they were in Austria, trying raspberry wine, next one jumped to Japan where they were indulged with Suntory whiskey, to cross to the other side of the hemisphere to enjoy the popular Canadian iced wine.

The Suntory Whisky was the star at the Japanese station.

We would like to express our gratitude to members and colleagues from the other Chambers for their hard work and effort to produce such a magnificent event.
